Album Rescue Project: Album 1, Photos 87-91

We’ve all been confused by the coding system on these photos. Now I’m really beginning to doubt the math skills of the original album owner (or at least the person who labeled the photos).

Note the age of the baby that is written at the bottom — “7 weeks old.” But here’s what’s written on the back:

Reverse of Photo 87: 6 weeks old.

There’s more:

Once again, “7 weeks old” is written at the base of this photo, which conflicts with what’s written on the reverse:

Reverse of Photo 88: 6 weeks old.

One more (nothing written on the back though):

Okay, moving on.

Nice shower cap?

And now, for something completely different.

    Rub-a-dub-dub, three men in a tub…..
    Love that photo!

Missy, from the bits of paper stuck to the reverse it looks like these photos were in an album. Maybe the captions on the front were added after the photos were glued to the pages and the writer didn’t know or couldn’t remember the info. Could two people have been involved? One captioned the back of the pix, another wrote the front notes? Just a thought.

My gmothers stuff included lots of photos sent to her with notes on the back written by various people.

    You’ve gt a fun mystery,
    Denise

Interesting theory, Denise! Could be. The ink and handwriting of the codes is pretty consistent and may have been done all at one time. It does vary from what’s written on the backs of the photos (in terms of handwriting and ink v. pencil, etc.).

I had the same thought as Denise. Someone wrote on the back and pasted in the album, someone else wrote on the front at a later date.

Is the woman with the shower cap picking fruit? Nice way to keep bugs and leaves out of your hair. I have some “dusting” caps my ancestors wore.
